Sanjana Sai, MD

Hello, my name is Sanjana and I’m excited to be a part of the FWMEP family! I was born in Bengaluru, Karnataka in India, and lived there for ten years with my grandparents. Our neighborhood was filled with physicians of many specialties, and I would often inadvertently shadow them. In 2007, my mom and I moved to Fort Wayne, IN where I had the biggest culture shock. I attended Haverhill Elementary School, Summit and Woodside Middle School, and Homestead High School, until moving away to Evansville, IN to study toward my Biology degree at the University of Evansville. In Evansville, I worked as a scribe in the St. Vincent Emergency Department, where I got a taste for medicine. I continued to shadow several physicians until I realized that I thrived in the outpatient setting; early on, I knew I loved forming relationships with patients!

I attended the Indiana University School of Medicine in Evansville and decided to schedule all my rotations there. I loved the one-on-one teaching opportunities I received from several attendings and learned to work in a team with wonderful residents. I fell in love with Family Medicine in Lynnville, IN where my preceptor was the kind of doctor everyone trusted. His practice was incredibly varied, he formed life-long relationships with his patients, and every day held a surprise. All these experiences pointed me to the clear path of Family Medicine. I was so impressed with how the Fort Wayne Medical Education Program is full-spectrum, unopposed, and offered several educational opportunities. Moreover, all the faculty and residents I met during my interviews were genuinely welcoming and kind. I am confident that I will receive a comprehensive Family Medicine education that will allow me to be a strong and well-rounded physician. My professional interests include women’s health, obstetrics, and palliative care.

Outside of medicine, my husband and I are always planning our next big adventure, going on nature walks, and exploring new restaurants. I spend my free time crocheting clothes for my family, watching bad horror movies, and enjoying a good book. We look forward to calling Fort Wayne home for the next several years.
